Early Works Collection, 2018–2024
The Quiet Study is a still life exploring the relationship between light, texture and form.
Created in 2024 during my coaching with artist Stefan Baumann, this painting formed part of my studies in observing how light behaves across different surfaces.
I chose a simple arrangement of a drinking glass and softly draped fabric, concentrating on the contrasts between the transparency and reflections of the glass and the folds and textures of the material surrounding it.
Working with a restrained palette of warm neutrals, soft greys and browns allowed me to focus on subtle changes in value, reflected light and the way different surfaces respond to illumination.
Unlike my more narrative paintings, this work was primarily an exercise in observation and technique, developing the skills needed to create convincing form, depth and atmosphere.
The Quiet Study represents an important part of my artistic education and the technical exploration that supported my later work.
