Dog Symbolism

Loyalty that remains, presence that does not leave

Dogs have long been associated with loyalty, protection, and companionship.

Across cultures, they appear as guardians, guides, and faithful companions. But beyond these traditional meanings, there is something deeper in the presence of a dog.

A quiet devotion.
A constant awareness.
A way of staying that asks for nothing in return.

This page explores the symbolic meaning of dogs, and how they appear within my work as part of the God’s Rope series.

TRADITIONAL SYMBOLISM

Dogs are often linked to:

  • Loyalty and devotion

  • Protection and guardianship

  • Faithfulness and trust

  • Companionship through life and death

In many traditions, dogs are seen as protectors not only of the home, but of the soul.

THE DOG AS PRESENCE

A dog does not question whether it should stay.

It simply stays.

There is a stillness in that kind of loyalty that goes beyond behaviour. It becomes something felt rather than observed.

In this sense, the dog is not only a symbol of devotion.
It is the embodiment of it.

DOGS IN MY WORK

In my paintings, dogs appear in moments of quiet connection.

They do not demand attention.
They do not perform.

They remain.

This forms part of the God’s Rope series, where each moment of connection becomes a thread, building something greater over time.
