2023 | Original Mixed Media and Oil Painting
12 × 16 inches | Mixed media, oil and silver leaf on paper
Early Works Collection, 2018–2024
Inspired by the fairytale King Leopard, the story of Princess Zeineb and a king placed under an enchantment that transforms him into a leopard.
Books and storytelling have always been an important part of my life. As a child, I was fascinated by stories featuring animals, and that fascination has stayed with me into adulthood.
When I created The Enchanted King, I was exploring how my love of literature, imagination and animals could come together in my paintings.
The leopard wears a crown of silver leaf rather than gold. This was a deliberate choice, reflecting his enchanted identity and the fact that he was a leopard rather than a lion, the animal traditionally associated with kingship.
Surrounded by flowers and butterflies, he inhabits a world somewhere between nature and fairytale.
Created in 2023, this painting belongs to a period when I was experimenting with different materials and ways of telling stories through art, gradually discovering how I wanted to express my lifelong connection with animals.
An original painting from my Early Works Collection, offered unframed and unmounted.
