A Journey Takes Flight: Nearly Complete Oil Painting by Debbie Moylan

Welcome to a glimpse into the heart of my latest creation! As I stand before my easel today on 16 November 2025, I’m thrilled to share the near-finished work of a painting that has been a labour of love. This piece, part of my evolving series, captures a bird in mid-flight, its wings unfurling against a celestial canvas of deep blues, purples, and shimmering golden threads. The Vision Takes Shape

This painting began with a simple spark - an image of a bird soaring through the night sky, guided by delicate golden threads that seem to weave a story of connection. Over the past weeks, each brushstroke has brought it closer to life. The rich, dark background, speckled with stars, sets the stage for the bird’s graceful form. Its wings, painted with layers of colour and light, suggest movement and freedom, while the golden threads add a touch of magic, hinting at something greater beyond the frame. As I near the end, I find myself refining the details - the subtle glint in the bird’s eye, the texture of its feathers, and the way the threads seem to dance with the starlight. It’s a delicate balance, and I’m savouring every moment of this final stage.

Behind the Canvas

Creating this piece has been a meditative process. The quiet hours spent blending oils, layering hues, and dreaming up the next stroke have filled my studio with a sense of wonder. I’ve been experimenting with techniques to capture the ethereal quality of the sky, using soft brushes to create those glowing threads that seem to lift the bird higher. It’s been a dance between control and letting the paint guide me, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together. If you look closely at the photo, you’ll notice the easel’s worn wood and the scattered notes - a testament to the creative chaos that fuels this work.
